Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted walking towards the sunrise on the obverse while elegantly draped in an American flag. Inscribed “LIBERTY,” “2008,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The image replicates the design created by acclaimed early 20th-century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman for the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Reverse: An eagle is centered on the reverse, in a heraldic pose beneath thirteen stars, with an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its grasp. This patriotic design, by 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, is the defining element of the Type-1 Silver Eagle style, which was struck on every release of the series from 1986 until mid-2021. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and the West Point Mint mark “W.”
