Obverse: The obverse is adorned with a timeless interpretation of Lady Liberty draped in the distinctive flag of the United States. Portrayed as a young woman, Ms. Liberty walks towards the rising sun while holding a bundle of oak and laurel branches, which are recognized as symbols of honor, strength, and triumph. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “2011,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” This rendition of Liberty, created by acclaimed early 20th-century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, appeared first on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Reverse: The reverse features a heraldic eagle with an olive branch and arrows in its grip. This image defines the Type-1 style Silver Eagle released from 1986 until mid-2021. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The design was created by sculptor John Mercanti, the U.S. Mint’s 12th Chief Engraver.
