Why Add This 2021 Type 2 American Silver Eagle 4 Coin Set to Your Collection?
The U.S. Mint strikes a wide variety of coins for collectors each year, but the American Silver Eagle is one of the most widely collected. This series began in 1986 and caught on quickly. 2021 is the 35th anniversary of the series and it also brought the first major design change of the series, the Type 2 reverse which replaced the Type 1 in mid-2021. The set offered here includes four different 2021 Type 2 Silver Eagles. There are two Proofs, one from San Francisco and one from West Point, one Burnished, and one Brilliant Uncirculated Silver Eagle.

- The Type 2 design notably features an anti-counterfeiting interrupted reeded edge security feature.
- The product limit of the 2021-S Proof was set to 200,000.
- The product limit of the 2021-W Proof was capped at 300,000.
- The Burnished specimen had the lowest product limit of any coin in this set with a cap of just 175,000.
Classic Liberty and a New Bald Eagle Design
Obverse: The obverse of each coin displays the classic Walking Liberty design. While it’s still the same design, it has been touched up a bit for 2021. The sun is shining in the background as Liberty walks forward wearing the stars and stripes. The Type 2 design also saw the inclusion of Adolph Weinman’s Artist initials, “AW,” on its obverse for the first time in the history of the series.
Reverse: The new Type 2 reverse is a real stunner just for the level of detail. If you look closely, the various parts of each individual feather are visible over much of the eagle. The powerful bald eagle in this design is preparing to land as it returns with an oak branch. The Proof and Burnished specimens have a mint mark on this side above the eagle’s tail, the Brilliant Uncirculated edition does not.
