Patriotic Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse gracefully walking towards the rising sun while draped in an American flag and carrying a bouquet of oak and laurel branches. The design was originally created by acclaimed medallic sculptor Adolph A. Weinman for the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Inscribed “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “2013.”
Reverse: The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with arrows and an olive branch in its grip. This image, designed by 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, is the identifying characteristic of the Type-1 style Silver Eagle issued from 1986 until mid-2021. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and the West Point Mint mark “W.”
