Breathtaking Gold Eagle Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse surrounded by fifty stars as she marches forward while carrying an olive branch and a flaming torch. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “2024,” and the artist’s monogram “ASG.” Sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed the timeless image, which first appeared on the Gold Double Eagle coin in 1907.
Reverse: The reverse features a left-facing portrait of a bald eagle. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “50 DOLLARS” and “1 OZ. FINE GOLD.” The stunning wildlife image, which is the primary identifying element of the Type-2 style Gold Eagle, was created by U.S. Mint by Artistic Infusion Program member Jennie Norris.
