Powerful Native American Man Design by James Earle Fraser
Obverse: Like the reverse, the obverse design comes from James Earle Fraser’s Buffalo Nickel. A composite portrait of an aging Native American man facing right features on this face. He has long, braided hair and feathers tied up on his head. He is joined by inscriptions of the date, “2024,” the artist’s last initial, “F,” and the word “LIBERTY.”
Reverse: An American bison features in left-side profile on the reverse. Above and below the animal, respectively, are the statutory mottoes “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Rim inscriptions provide the name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and the coin’s weight and purity, “1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD,” while the coin’s face value, “$50,” is also included on this face. James Earle Fraser sculpted many pieces that feature at prominent Washington, DC locations.
