Obverse: This coin takes its designs from James Earle Fraser’s Buffalo Nickel. The obverse features a right-facing composite portrait of a Native American man. He has long hair that hangs over his shoulder and feathers tied up on his head. Inscriptions on this face include the date, “2024,” the last initial of the designer, “F,” and the word “LIBERTY.”
Reverse: Dominating the reverse is an American bison. The statutory mottoes “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are inscribed above its back and below its head, respectively. The coin’s face value, “$50,” is just below the animal, while the name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and its metal content, “1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD,” are inscribed along the rim. James Earle Fraser was a prolific American sculptor. His work can be seen throughout the District of Columbia.
