Classic Buffalo Design by James Earle Fraser
Obverse: Like the reverse, the obverse design comes from James Earle Fraser’s Buffalo Nickel. On this face is a composite portrait of an again Native American man, who has long, braided hair and feathers tied up at the back of his head. Inscriptions on this face include “LIBERTY” in the upper right and the date, “2024,” in the lower left.
Reverse: Gracing the reverse is Fraser’s American bison design. The creature is shown in left-side profile, and the mottos “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are inscribed below its head and above its back, respectively. The name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” is inscribed along the rim at the top, while the coin’s face value, “$50,” and weight and purity, “1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD,” are provided below. James Earle Fraser was an American sculptor. His work remains on display at numerous locations especially in the Washington, DC area.
