Obverse: On the obverse, Lady Liberty is illustrated confidently marching forward while carrying a flaming torch of enlightenment and an olive branch of peace. In the background, stylized rays of sunlight emanate from the distinctive dome of the U.S. Capitol Building. Fifty stars encircle the image, which also includes the inscriptions “LIBERTY” and “2024.” This powerful image originally appeared on the 1907 Gold Double Eagle coin. The design is the result of a collaboration between acclaimed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens and President Theodore Roosevelt.
Reverse: A meticulously detailed eagle head dominates the reverse. The eagle is globally recognized as a powerful symbol of strength and wisdom. The U.S. national bird is accompanied by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “5 DOLLARS,” and “1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD.” This eagle portrait, which is the primary defining element of the Type-2 variety Gold Eagle, is an example of the work of Jennie Norris, a professional graphic artist and a member of the U.S. Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program.
