Featuring Adolph Weinman’s Patriotic Walking Liberty Design
Obverse: Returning to the obverse, where it has appeared since the series began, is Adolph Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty design. Draped in the American flag, Liberty carries laurel and oak branches in the early morning sun. Obverse inscriptions note the central figure’s name, “LIBERTY,” the date, “2023,” and the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Adolph Weinman was an immigrant from Germany. A prolific sculptor, he was one of the most important contributors to the American numismatic renaissance in the early 20th century. Weinman’s artist initials, AW,” also appear on the obverse.
Reverse: On the reverse is Emily Damstra’s Landing Eagle design. The national bird carries an oak branch in its talons as it prepares to land. Inscriptions on this face include the statutory motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” the name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the face value of the coin, “ONE DOLLAR,” and the coin’s metal content, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER.” Emily Damstra graduated from the University of Michigan with an MFA in science illustration. She has a diverse range of clients whom she provides with zoological, botanical, and other illustrations.
