Featuring the Striking Landing Eagle Design of Emily Damstra
Obverse: Adolph Weinman’s Walking Liberty design retains its place on the obverse, where it has been since the series began. Liberty is draped in the American flag as she carries laurel and oak branches in the early morning sun. Inscriptions on the obverse include the central figure’s name, “LIBERTY,” the date, “2023,” artist initials, “AW,” and the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Adolph Weinman was a prolific sculptor who immigrated to the United States from Germany. He is best known for designing the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Reverse: Gracing the reverse is Emily Damstra’s Landing Eagle design. America’s national symbol is encircled by inscriptions that provide the name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the coin’s face value, “ONE DOLLAR,” and its metal content, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER.” Also inscribed on this face is the statutory motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Emily Damstra has an MFA in scientific illustration from the University of Michigan. She serves a variety of clients with zoological, biological, and other images of the natural world.
