Stunning U.S. Coinage Imagery
The set includes a Lincoln cent, a Jefferson nickel, a Roosevelt dime, and a Kennedy half dollar. The single year of issue 2023 Native American Dollar coin featured in the set is a tribute to the achievements of Maria Tallchief, an American ballerina from the Osage Nation. Ms. Tallchief is considered to be America’s first prima ballerina and is revered for her significant contributions to the evolution of the art of ballet.
The American Women Quarters in the set are dedicated to Bessie Coleman (the first female Native American pilot and first African American to earn an international pilot’s license), Edith Kanaka’ole (an indigenous Hawaiian composer who dedicated her life to preserving the natural land of Hawaii and its cultural traditions), Eleanor Roosevelt (First Lady, author and staunch supporter of civil liberties and human rights), Jovita Idar (Mexican American journalist, bi-lingual education advocate, and political activist) and prima ballerina Maria Tallchief. The American Women theme continues on the obverse of each quarter, which features a right-facing image of George Washington that was designed by acclaimed early 20th-century sculptor Laura Gardin Fraser. This distinctive rendition of the first U.S. President was originally recommended for the launch of the 1932 Washington Quarter by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts.
