Handsome Big 5 Series II Buffalo Design
Obverse: A single Buffalo is illustrated on the obverse, above the coat of arms of South Africa. The national emblem is positioned between the inscriptions “SOUTH AFRICA” and “BIG FIVE 2023.”
Reverse: Two buffalos are depicted on the reverse as forward-facing partial portraits. The gracefully curving horns of the buffalo pair form a frame around a circular inset that bears the inscriptions “FIVE RAND,” “1 OZ” and “AG 999.” When several coins are aligned, the portraits are completed, creating the intriguing illusion of an advancing buffalo herd.
