Patriotic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Obverse: Both faces of this coin bear the designs of the series that it commemorated and are the work of George T. Morgan. On the obverse is a left-facing Liberty, who dons a Phrygian cap and a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name. Her effigy is historic because of Morgan’s choice of an American-style model rather than a Greek style model. Along the rim are the inscriptions “E PLURIBS UNUM” and “2023,” which are joined by thirteen stars.
Reverse: An eagle spreads its wings whole holding arrows and an olive branch on the reverse. Above the bird’s head is an inscription of the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Rim inscriptions provide the name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and the coin’s face value, “ONE DOLLAR.” George T. Morgan was the seventh Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
Virtually Flawless MS69 FR with Exclusive Morgan Label
Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) provided this coin’s grade on an exclusive label that bears an image of a Morgan dollar. NGC graded the coin Mint State 69 (MS 69), which indicates that it appears nearly perfect to the naked eye, and certified it First Releases (FR). The FR designation indicates that the coin was submitted for grading no more than 30 days after its initial release from the mint.
