Powerful Bristlecone Pine Design by Elena Hagler
Obverse: Elena Hagler’s obverse design features a bristlecone pine that is thought to be one of the Earth’s oldest living organisms. Next to it is the inspirational motto “WE SHALL PERSEVERE.” The word “LIBERTY” and the date “2023” are also inscribed on this face. Elena Hagler is a fine artist and portraitist who teaches drawing and painting as an Assistant Professor at Alabama State University.
Reverse: A young bald eagle is perched on a rocky outcropping moments before taking flight in John McGraw’s reverse design. The name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” spreads throughout the top half of the rim. John McGraw has been working with the US Mint as a product design specialist since 2014.
