Obverse: The obverse is adorned with a right facing rendition of a Native American Chief, an image which features a combination of the facial characteristics of three different Chiefs: Big Tree of the Kiowa, Iron Tail of the Oglala Lakota, and Two Moons of the Cheyenne. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “2023” and the single initial “F” to credit artist James Earle Fraser.
Reverse: An American buffalo is depicted standing majestically on the reverse, upon a flattened mound of dirt. The image is surrounded by a hammered textured field and accompanied by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” with “1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD” and the coin’s “$50” denomination in the compacted earth below.
