Timeless Designs by Saint-Gaudens and Norris
Obverse: The inscriptions on this side include the date, “LIBERTY,” and the artist’s initials. Liberty is depicted with the Capitol building behind her. She is holding her torch high and carrying an olive branch with her other hand. The U.S. Mint in 2020 referred to the original bronze cast to restore legacy details of this obverse design that include modifications to the Capitol Building, torch, and sun rays, amongst other design details.
Reverse: The design on the reverse shows a wonderfully detailed close up view of the head of a bald eagle. This work of art was created by Jennie Norris and is known as the Eagle Portrait Type 2 design. It debuted in mid-2021 when it replaced the Family of Eagles design, and is now the series standard.
