Powerful Patriotic Icons
Obverse: The date is inscribed on this side and the artist’s initials can be seen just below it. This Liberty design was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and originally appeared on the $20 Gold Eagle in the early 1900’s. This classic design was recently modified by the U.S. Mint thanks to original historical assets that allowed the obverse design closer to more closely match Saint-Gaudens’ original vision.
Reverse: Jennie Norris is the artist behind this design which is known as the Type 2 or Eagle Portrait design. Now the series standard, this reverse design replaced the Family of Eagles Type 1 design in mid-2021. The reverse shows a bald eagle from the neck up and the perspective is very close.
