Obverse: The Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests at the Beijing Temple of Heaven complex is depicted in magnificent detail on the obverse. The date of issue, “2023,” is positioned beneath the grand staircase which leads up to the landmark structure.
Reverse: The reverse features a mother panda seated on a small hill, nibbling on a slim branch of bamboo, while her cub frolics at her side. “40th Anniversary” is inscribed in Mandarin below the charming wildlife scene. To preserve the integrity of the original 1983 design, the medal’s reeded edge is hand engraved with its metallic content, purity and weight as “AG 999 30 G.”

The Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) received this 2023 30 gram silver proof medal minted in honor of the Silver Panda 40th Anniversary within thirty days of its official Mint release date, qualifying for the desirable First Releases (FR) attribution. Featuring a perfectly executed high relief strike, flawless surfaces and astoundingly sharp contrast between its frosted and mirrored finishes, the medal was awarded the NGC’s most prestigious grade of Proof 70 Ultra Cameo (PF 70 UC).
