Modern Bald Eagle Reverse
Obverse: Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ depiction of Liberty is shown here. This design was created in the early 1900s and made its first appearance on the Double Eagle, which was still circulating at that time. The date is inscribed on this side. The U.S. Mint recently restored legacy design details based on the original bronze cast to create an obverse design closer to Saint-Gaudens’ original inception.
Reverse: The bald eagle design on the reverse, known as the Type 2 design, was introduced in mid-2021 when it replaced the classic Type 1 Family of Eagles design. It’s the work of Jennie Norris and displays an impressive level of detail, it’s like you’re really there next to the bald eagle.
