This image first appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar designed by renowned early 20th century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman.
Reverse: The reverse demonstrates the concept of freedom, as an eagle lifts its wings in preparation for landing, with an oak branch in its grasp. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The Type-2 eagle landing design is credited to Emily Damstra, a member of the U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program since 2014.
