Featuring the Breathtaking Landing Eagle Design of Emily Damstra
Obverse: The coin takes its obverse design from Adolph Weinman’s famous Walking Liberty Half Dollar. An American flag draped Liberty carries laurel and oak branches against a backdrop of the rising sun. Her name, “LIBERTY,” is inscribed on this face, as are the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the date, “2022.” Adolph Weinman was a prolific sculptor whose work remains on display in numerous American cities. He is best known for designing the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Reverse: Gracing the reverse is a Landing Eagle design by Emily Damstra. The national bird clutches an oak branch in its talons as it prepares to land. The statutory motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is inscribed within the rim inscriptions, which read, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “1 OZ. FINE SILVER.” Emily Damstra has an MFA from the University of Michigan. Many of her designs have appeared on American coinage, starting with the 2017 Boys Town Centennial Commemorative Coin.
