Inspiring Liberty and Bald Eagle Designs
Obverse: If you’re looking for the “W” mint mark, it’s located on this coin’s obverse near the date and the artist’s initials. The Liberty design that’s featured on this side is the work of Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The design was created over a century ago and it was originally used for a circulating $20 gold coin known as the Double Eagle.
Reverse: The face value and gold weight are among the inscriptions on this side. This side displays the new reverse design that was introduced as part of the 35th anniversary of the series in 2021. It shows a side view of a bald eagle from a very close perspective. The number of fine details that are visible on the eagle is quite impressive.
