Obverse: The obverse features a right facing depiction of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with the famed Royal Diamond Diadem created for King George IV in 1820 upon her head. Surrounding inscriptions include “ELIZABETH II,” “D.G. REGINA F.D.,” “ST. HELENA” and “1 POUND.” This likeness of Great Britain’s longest reigning monarch was designed in 2015 by acclaimed British sculptor Jody Clark.
Reverse: A picturesque scene illustrating Princess Una in silent communication with her lion companion appears on the reverse. The guardian and his princess are gilded, exquisitely contrasting against the silver stylized sun and trailing vines in the background. The image frame contains the inscriptions “UNA AND THE LION,” the year of issue “2022,” and the East India Company’s “EIC” Mint mark.
