The coin shown here was struck by the East India Trading Company and was issued by Saint Helena, a small island in the Atlantic controlled by the British. Many are not particularly familiar with Saint Helena, but this is where Napoleon spent his exile and the last years of his life. This specimen comes from the Aesop Fables series, it features the Tortoise and the Hare design. Production of this coin was limited.

Colorized Fable Design
Obverse: Since this coin was issued by Saint Helena, the obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The version shown here is the work of Jody Clark. This side also displays most of the inscriptions, including the face value, date, and country of issue.
Reverse: This side displays the Tortoise and the Hare design. The hare is pictured relaxing in the background as the tortoise pushes through the finish line. The moral is inscribed at the top, “SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE.” The tortoise and the finish line banner have been colorized.
