Breathtakingly Beautiful Phoenix Imagery
Obverse: The obverse features an elegant rendition of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with the famed Royal Diamond Diadem upon her head. The right facing portrait is encircled by a wide border containing the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “AUSTRALIA,” “1 OZ 9999 AG,” “1 DOLLAR” and the date of issue “2022.” This interpretation of the monarch was created in 2015 by acclaimed British sculptor Jody Clark.
Reverse: A meticulously detailed airborne Phoenix is depicted on the reverse, with a paulownia blossom held in its beak. According to legends, the Phoenix will only perch on the branches of a paulownia tree. The form of the Phoenix is derived from the head of a pheasant, body of a mandarin duck, tail of a peacock, beak of a parrot and the wings of a swallow. The background is ornamented with a charming display of auspicious clouds, which symbolize abundance and good fortune. The Perth Mint mark “P” is nestled within the cloud pattern.
