A Koala’s Typical Lazy Day
Obverse: Centered on the obverse is a right facing portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem. A wide border inscribed with “ELIZABETH II,” “AUSTRALIA” and “1 DOLLAR” surrounds the likeness of the Queen. This rendition of the monarch, known as the fifth definitive coinage portrait, was created in 2015 by acclaimed British sculptor Jody Clark.
Reverse: Koalas are known to spend up to eighteen hours of each day sleeping. The reverse of the coin demonstrates their sedentary nature, portraying a single koala clinging to a tree branch while blissfully asleep, surrounded by clusters of eucalyptus leaves. Inscriptions include the Perth Mint’s “P” Mint mark and “2022 1 OZ 9999 SILVER,” with “KOALA” curving above in an elegantly styled font.
