Proof Dollar Honors Historic Negro League
Obverse: The obverse depicts a pitcher throwing a baseball, as seen by a batter or catcher. The pitcher is encircled by a baseball stitching border. “IN GOD WE TRUST” “2022” and “LIBERTY” appear as inscriptions. The obverse designer was Matt Swaim, of the A.I.P. and sculpted by Eric David Custer.
Reverse: The reverse design shows the opposite end of the pitch as it is approaching the plate, this time from the pitcher’s point of view. The baseball is shown approaching the batter, catcher and umpire. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” “$1” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” appear as inscriptions. The reverse designer was Don Everhart of the A.I.P. and was sculpted by Craig Campbell, a U.S. Mint Medallic Artist.
