Design Honors Baseball’s Historic Negro League
Obverse: The obverse design shows a pitcher with the baseball in the foreground as seen from the point of view of the batter. Baseball stitching is used as a border. Inscriptions include: “IN GOD WE TRUST” “2022” and “LIBERTY.” The obverse was designed by Matt Swaim, of the Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program and sculpted by Eric David Custer.
Reverse: The reverse design shows a pitch being delivered to the plate from the point of view of the pitcher. The baseball appears in the foreground, followed by the batter, catcher and umpire. Inscriptions include: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” “$1” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The reverse was designed by Don Everhart of the Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program and was sculpted by Craig Campbell, U.S. Mint Medallic Artist.
