Imagery Celebrating Prince William’s Birthday
Obverse: The obverse features the fifth definitive coinage portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The likeness of the monarch is encircled by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “D.G. REG. F.D.,” “5 POUNDS” and “2022.” The effigy was created in 2015 by acclaimed British sculptor Jody Clark.
Reverse: The reverse is adorned with a handsome three-quarter angle portrait of Prince William, as he gazes to the right with a thoughtful expression upon his face. In the background, on the left, the number “40” appears, with a crowned scripted “W,” the royal cypher of Prince William, on the right. The coin’s smooth edge is inscribed with “HRH THE DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE.” The portrait is the work of British sculptor Thomas T. Docherty, a product designer and engraver at The Royal Mint.
