Obverse: The national emblem of China, which depicts the Tiananmen Gate of the Forbidden City, is located on the obverse. Five stars hover above the landmark, the largest of which is a representation of the ruling Communist party, while the other four are symbolic of the classes of Maoism. Inscriptions include “2022” and “People’s Republic of China” in Chinese characters.
Reverse: The reverse is graced with the shape of “Fu” by Wen Zhengming of the Ming Dynasty, on a papercut flower circle. The “Fu” symbol is traditionally used in the New Year celebrations as an offer of good fortune and happiness in the coming year. The emblem is surrounded by an array of panes, magpies, plum blossoms, folk house eaves and the coin’s “3 Yuan” denomination. The design also includes the character for “Renyin,” which declares 2022 as the Year of the Tiger and the 39th year of the 60 year Chinese Sexagenary cycle.
