The Waratah, the official floral emblem of New South Wales (NSW) is celebrated on the first release of the series. Featuring large, bright crimson blossoms, the flower is one of the most recognizable symbols of Australia, appearing on art, stamps and home decor, as well as being the namesake of the NSW Rugby team.

Exquisitely Detailed Imagery
Obverse: The obverse features an off-center inset containing a right facing portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “AUSTRALIA” and “2022.” The effigy is surrounded by a loosely formed wreath composed of Waratah stems and leaves, with three flowers in varied stages of growth, from a tightly closed bud, to partially opened, to a fully blooming blossom. “1 OZ .999 AG” is inscribed. The monarch’s likeness was created in 2015 by renowned British sculptor Jody Clark.
Reverse: On a swirling spiral patterned background, a trio of Waratah flowers are majestically illustrated in full glorious bloom on the reverse, each blossom surrounded by a frame of its traditional jagged edged leaves. The coin’s “ONE DOLLAR” denomination curves below.
