Featuring a Patriotic Eagle Design by Jennie Norris

Obverse: Augustus Saint-Gaudens’s obverse design, which came from his Double Eagle, features on the obverse. Liberty stands facing the holder with her torch, a symbol of freedom, in her right hand and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in her left. Her name, “LIBERTY,” is inscribed at the top, while the coin’s date, “2022,” is on the right. Augustus Saint-Gaudens was an Irish immigrant who was a prolific sculptor. Besides being famous for designing the Double Eagle, he also founded the Cornish colony, which attracted artists of all sorts.

Reverse: Designed by Jennie Norris and sculpted by Renata Gordon, the reverse bears a closeup eagle design. The statutory mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are inscribed above, while rim inscriptions offer the name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the coin’s face value, ’10 DOLLARS,” and its weight, “1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD.” Jennie Norris is an award winning fine artist. This is her first design to appear on an American coin.
