Deeply American Designs
Obverse: The obverse was designed by artist Adolph Weinman. It features the timeless image of Liberty making way over rough terrain. She is shows with oak and laurel branches which are symbols of strength and prosperity. The “Type 2” modifications reinstate the artist’s initials as part of the design for the first time in the series.
Reverse: The Type 2 reverse design comes from Emily Damstra, noted science illustrator, nature artist and numismatic designer. The image is that of a dynamic Bald Eagle, captured mere seconds before coming to rest on an oak branch.
What is SP70?
Specimen 70 coins are numismatic perfection. They have a unique brilliant but subdued frosty luster. These coins are flawless when examined under magnification. This excellent example features the First Strikes (FS) designation, noting that it was graded and slabbed within 30 days of release. Burnished coins have a high quality specialty finish that is the result of special preparation of the dies and planchets. This unique finish requires “Specimen” nomenclature, rather than “Mint State” or “Proof” categories. These “burnished” coins often feature generally lower mintages than Proofs or Business strikes.
