Stunning Type-2 Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty remains unchanged on the obverse, depicted gracefully walking towards the rising sun, with her right arm reaching forward in welcome, while enveloped in the flag of the United States. She cradles a bouquet of oak and laurel branches, which are recognized as symbols of strength, honor and victory. This time-honored graphic created by acclaimed sculptor Adolph A. Weinman was first utilized in 1916, on the Walking Liberty half dollar. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “2021,” and for the first time since the Silver Eagle series launch in 1986, the initials “AW” appear below the motto to credit the designer.
Reverse: On the reverse, an oak branch is held in the talons of an eagle, as it raises its wings to slow its descent. Inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “W” and “ONE DOLLAR.” The Type-2 Eagle Landing image is the work of science and nature illustrator Emily Damstra, the artist behind multiple coinage designs issued by the U.S. and Royal Canadian Mints.
