Striking Landing Eagle Design by Emily Damstra
Obverse: Adolph Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty design, which first appeared on the half dollar of the same name, features on the obverse. The morning sun begins to rise as Liberty carries laurel and oak branches while draped in the American flag. Obverse inscriptions include the central figure’s name, “LIBERTY,” the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the date, “2021.” Adolph Weinman designed two of the best known coins of the 20th century, the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. In addition to these and other numismatic contributions, he also sculpted works that continue to be displayed in numerous American cities.
Reverse: The new reverse design, which was created by Emily Damstra, shows an eagle landing with an oak branch in its talons. Inscriptions along the rim provide the name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the coin’s face value, “ONE DOLLAR,” and its metal content, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER.” Also included on this face is the statutory motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
