Striking Eagle Design by Jennie Norris
Obverse: The iconic Saint-Gaudens design of Augustus Saint-Gaudens graces the obverse. The rays of the morning sun spread out behind Liberty as she stands facing the holder with her torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Her name, “LIBERTY,” is inscribed above her head, and the date, “2021,” is included to the right. Modifications were made to the obverse as the United States Mint returned to their historical assets resulting in a design much closer to Saint-Gaudens’ original vision.
Reverse: A new design by Jennie Norris features on the reverse. It is a closeup look at the head of an eagle. “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the two statutory mottoes, are inscribed just above the eagle’s head. Inscriptions along the rim provide the same information as those on the Type 1 version, but they have been rearranged. They read, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “5 DOLLARS,” and “1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD.”
