Meticulously Detailed Imagery
Obverse: The dramatic scene depicting two F-22 fighter jets in flight through cloud cover, beside a close-up view of a fully suited pilot in a cockpit, appears on the obverse. A hint of rural landscape is seen between the clouds, with “U.S. AIR FORCE” inscribed above.
Reverse: A U.S. Air Force Honor Guard stands at attention at the site of the Air Force Memorial on the reverse. The three massive curved spires of the memorial are reminiscent of the contrails of the missing man formation, the traditional Air Force Thunderbirds maneuver executed at an Air Force funeral fly-over. The inscription above the powerful image is a declaration of the three core values of the Air Force: “SERVICE BEFORE SELF,” “INTEGRITY FIRST” and “EXCELLENCE IN ALL WE DO.”
