Meticulously Detailed Homage to Zorro
Obverse: The obverse features a right facing rendition of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, encircled by a beaded border, along with the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE ISLAND,” “5 DOLLARS” and “2021.” The Mint mark “MW” (Mennica Warszawska) and “AG .999” are located beneath the portrait, as well as the initials “IRB,” which credit sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley with the familiar effigy. Mr. Rank-Broadley is a highly respected, award-winning British artist, who designed this likeness of the Queen, at the approximate age of 70, in 1998.
Reverse: The reverse is adorned with a dramatic portrayal of Zorro seated upon his rearing horse Tornado, with his sword raised in a battle-ready pose. The background of the rimless design depicts the wilderness of California, with Zorro’s signature “Z” initial slashing across the scene embellished with starkly contrasting gold plating.
