Intricately Detailed Shield of Athena Imagery
Obverse: The right facing rendition of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse is partially framed by design elements borrowed from the coin’s reverse. Accompanying inscriptions include “NIUE ISLAND,” “2022,” “ELIZABETH II,” “FIVE DOLLARS” and “AG 999,” along with the Mint of Poland’s Mint mark “MW” (Mennica Warszawska). The additional inscription “IRB” located beneath the portrait credits renowned British sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley for the monarch’s image, which has appeared on the coinage of the Commonwealth realms since 1998.
Reverse: The reverse features a rimless shield design focused upon the head of a Gorgon surrounded by coiling snakes, within an ornately textured frame. Inscribed “THE SHIELD OF ATHENA.”
