Obverse: A right facing effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem is located on the obverse, surrounded by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “D.G. REG. FID. DEF.,” “5 POUNDS” and “2021.” This likeness of the Queen, known as the fifth definitive coinage portrait, is the work of award winning Royal Mint sculptor Jody Clark.
Reverse: The reverse features an image of Prince Philip dressed formally in a suit jacket and tie, posed facing right with a pensive, yet content expression upon his face. The inscription “HRH THE PRINCE PHILIP” appears vertically, while “DUKE OF EDINBURGH” is inscribed below along with his dates of life “1921” and 2021.” This handsome likeness of the late Prince Philip is credited to acclaimed British sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley, who also created the fourth definitive coinage portrait of the Queen.
