Featuring the Stunning Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
Obverse: The coin’s obverse design comes from the Walking Liberty half dollar, which was designed by Adolph Weinman. Liberty strides confidently with laurel and oak branches in her arm as the morning sun rises to the left. Her name, “LIBERTY,” arches over the image, while the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the date, “2020,” are also inscribed on this face. Adolph Weinman was a major contributor to America’s numismatic renaissance in the early 20th century. His contributions include the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime. Weinman also designed many sculptures that adorn government and other buildings to this day.
Reverse: The Great Seal of the United States served as the model for John Mercanti’s reverse design. An eagle clutches arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other while guarding a union shield under thirteen stars. Inscriptions on the rim read, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” John Mercanti is the most prolific designer in the history of the US Mint. Mercanti held the post of Chief Engraver during part of his three and a half-plus decades with the facility.
