Beautiful American Designs
Obverse: Artist and sculptor Adolph A. Weinman was the genius behind the image used on the obverse. The image depicts Lady Liberty carrying the American Flag and laurel and oak branches as symbols of unity, prosperity and strength.
Reverse: The artist responsible for the reverse image is John M. Mercanti, the now-retired, 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. His Heraldic Eagle appears beneath an inverted triangular field of thirteen stars. The Eagle clutches arrows and the olive branch of peace. The reverse design was created specifically for the series.
