Why Buy This MS70 Final T1 and First T2 Production 2021 American Silver Eagle 2 Coin Set with 35th Anniversary Labels?
The American Silver Eagle has been struck by the U.S. Mint each year since 1986. Until 2021, the design for these coins has remained relatively unchanged since the first year of issue. 2021 brings the transition to the new Type 2 reverse which coincides with the 35th anniversary of the series, replacing the Type 1 design partway through the year.
- The set includes two 2021 American Silver Eagle coins, one Type 1 and one Type 2.
- Each coin contains 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver.
- The Type 2 Silver Eagle includes an interrupted reeded edge security feature.
- These coins are part of the final 200,000 Type 1 Silver Eagles to be struck, and the first 200,000 Type 2 Silver Eagles.
- These specimens were graded by NGC and received special designations.
Type 1 and Type 2 Reverse Designs with Walking Liberty Obverse
Obverse: The obverse of both coins in this set shows the date and the Walking Liberty design. The Type 2 Silver Eagle also features the designer Adolph Weinman’s artist initials “AW” on the obverse. Liberty can be seen with the stars and stripes flowing around her as she strides forward with one arm extended and a bundle of branches in the other.
Reverse: This side of the Type 1 specimen shows a heraldic bald eagle design that you are most likely familiar with. This design has served as the reverse of the series for 35 years. The reverse of the Type 2 features a stunningly detailed eagle as it descends from the sky carrying an oak branch.
NGC MS70 Final T1 and First T2 Production with 35th Anniversary Labels
Since both of these 2021 Silver Eagles are in perfect condition, each one was awarded the grade of Mint State 70 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) before being individually encapsulated. The Type 1 specimen qualified for the “Final T1 Production” designation, which is only for the last 200,000 Type 1 Silver Eagles to be produced. The Type 2 coin received the “First T2 Production” designation, which was only available for the first 200,000 of these that were struck. These two coins also have special labels for the 35th anniversary of the series.
