Powerful Landing Eagle Design by Emily Damstra
Obverse: On the obverse is the historic Walking Liberty design of Adolph Weinman. The morning sun begins to rise as Liberty carries laurel and oak branches while draped in the American flag. Weinman’s artist mark has been added on the right. Inscriptions on this face note the central figure’s name, “LIBERTY,” the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the date, “2021.” Adolph Weinman designed two of the most important coins of the 20th century, the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime. He also made other numismatic contributions, and his sculptures continue to be displayed in cities across America.
Reverse: The new reverse design was created by Emily Damstra and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso. An eagle carries an oak branch in its talons as it prepares to land. Rim inscriptions read, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “1 OZ. FINE SILVER.” Also included on this face is the statutory motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
