Stunning Chinstrap Penguin Design
The coin’s obverse bears a right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait is exclusive to the Pobjoy Mint, which is represented by its initials, “PM,” at the base of the image. The monarch wears her Royal Diamond Diadem, earrings, and a necklace. The name of the issuing territory, “SOUTH GEORGIA & SOUTH SANDWICH ISLANDS,” join with the date, “2020,” in partially encircling her majesty.
The reverse features a colorized look at the featured animal. The penguin has its head turned up and is calling out. This offers an excellent view of the dark feathers under its chin that give it its name. It stands on a piece of ice against a backdrop of choppy water. Its name, “CHINSTRAP PENGUIN,” arches over it, while the coin’s face value, “FIFTY PENCE,” is noted at the bottom of this face.
