The U.S. Mint has treated collectors to quite a number of appealing and intriguing coins with their modern commemorative program. This 2020-P Basketball Hall of Fame silver dollar has a proof finish. It was issued to mark the 60th anniversary of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. A mintage limit of 400,000 pieces is in place, this is a combined mintage limit for the proof and uncirculated versions.
Stunningly Detailed Basketball Designs
The design on the obverse symbolizes some of the qualities and characteristics that the game of basketball embraces. Here, three diverse players from different backgrounds are depicted as they simultaneously reach for the ball in the air. The date and mint mark are in the lower right portion of the design.
Several inscriptions can be found on the reverse. This surface is almost completely covered with a depiction of a basketball, it’s shown as it enters the hoop. This design is a great fit with the coin’s dome shape.
NGC PF70 First Day of Issue
Since this coin was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) on its release day, it received the highly coveted First Day of Issue designation. Additionally, it was awarded the grade of Proof 70 for its perfect condition.
