The US Mint put American collectors and non-collectors alike on a coin hunt this year by striking the first ever quarters to bear the “W” mint mark for circulation. The “W” mint mark indicates that a coin was struck at the West Point Mint. All told, ten million coins, two million of each of the 2019 America the Beautiful Quarters, were struck with the mint mark. All of them were released directly into circulation. This Idaho version features an image from River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho. It is a particularly good choice for collectors who love images of America’s great outdoors.

All quarters in the series share a common obverse, John Flanagan’s 1932 portrait of President George Washington. The left-side effigy is joined by four inscriptions, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “QUARTER DOLLAR” are above and below it along the rim. “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are set off to the left and right, respectively.
Renata Gordon sculpted a design by Emily Damstra for the reverse. A man enjoys a rushing river on his boat in a stunning wilderness scene. The image, which is complete with trees and rock formations, appears all the more striking thanks to its ground level perspective. The name of the park, “RIVER OF NO RETURN WILDERNESS,” is inscribed at the top, while inscriptions on the bottom half of the rim read, “IDAHO,” “2019,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) certified this piece an Early Find, meaning that it was submitted to them within 45 days of the first submission of this type of coin to the grading company. PCGS also certified that the piece is in Mint State 65 condition, meaning that it has an above average strike. This certification and grade come on a blue label.
