Reverse: An American flag on a pole as viewed from below is depicted on the reverse, with the completion of the obverse phrase “…OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” below, and the American Legion’s distinctive logo above. Additionally inscribed “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “HALF DOLLAR” and the Mint mark “S.” The image is an example of the work of Joseph Menna, the U.S. Mint’s 14th Chief Engraver.
