Why purchase this perfectly graded 2019-S American Innovation Pennsylvania Reverse Proof Dollar Coin?
This U.S. Mint release of the American Innovation series honors the state of Pennsylvania, with a design dedicated to the 1953 discovery of a vaccine for polio at the University of Pittsburgh. Featuring a dramatic reverse proof finish, the 26.49 mm in diameter clad 2019-S American Innovations Pennsylvania coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint.
Magnificently Detailed Design Celebrating the Polio Vaccine
Three unique magnifications of the poliovirus molecule are illustrated on the reverse, along with the distinct silhouette of a period microscope. The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “POLIO VACCINE,” “1953” and “PENNSYLVANIA” accompany the design by Richard Masters and Joseph Menna.
The obverse depiction of the Statue of Liberty beside a gear privy mark is common to all releases of the series. The design by Justin Kunz and Phebe Hemphill includes the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” The coin is minted with a smooth edge incused with thirteen stars, San Francisco’s “S” Mint mark, “2019” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
